How do I restrict who can post comments on my article?

It's sometimes not appropriate to allow users to post feedback on an article. This article describes how you can configure who can post feedback and how to turn feedback off on an article entirely.

A "Feedback" forum is created automatically in every user group folder; if you click on the "Forum" tab on both the usergroup user and featuresgroupfeatures type of groups you will see the feedback forum titled "Feedback for groupname".

These forums store user's comments on any articles in that group. These comments appear both beneath the article they were posted on, and within any forum component that is set to load the latest forum posts on the site just like other forum postings. One of these forum components may already appear on the homepage of your site.

Configuring article feedback

By default any user can read and write comments on articles. You can configure this is two different ways:

  • Stop comments being able to be posted on a specific article.
  • Change the security settings on the "feedback" forum so you limit who can read and post on all articles in a particular area.

How to turn off feedback for particular articles

  • Locate the article that you wish to prevent feedback being posted on. You can use the Quick Find feature to help you open the article quickly.
  • Once the article is located and opened in the Document editor then select the properties tab.
  • On the properties tab deselect the Article Feedback option.
Can't see the Article Feedback Checkbox? The article feedback option is hidden on Group homepage articles because feedback isn't possible on group homepage articles.
  • Click Save, located at the top-right of the document editor, to commit your changes.

How to restrict who can post feedback on an article

  • Locate the usergroup group folder that you wish to restrict who can post comments on articles.
  • Select the Forums tab, the list of Forums in that group will be displayed.
  • Select the forum titled "Feedback for groupname", and then click the task titled
Edit details of the Feedback for groupname forum.
  • Review the Security settings changing who can see the forum and who can contribute; for each group of people using the web site select whether the forum is hidden, read only, or read and write. For example if you wanted all users to view comments on articles published in this group but you only wanted logged in users to leave comments then you would set the Public Users settings to 'Can read messages' and the Other Site Members setting to 'Can read and write messages'.
  • Click Save, located at the top-right of the document editor, to commit your changes.
